December Tidings Now Available

We are pleased to let you know that the December 2017 electronic newsletters are available for your review.

To access, please go to:

members.sca.org
Log in with the same login information that you use to renew your membership.There is even an option to "remember me on this computer", so you don't have to enter in your login information each time!

The nuances of logging in are on the left side of the screen, including methods for getting help.

Once you are logged in: 

At the top of the screen are the membership options.  Click the button for newsletter access on the far right.  This will open the directory of Kingdoms which remains unchanged.

Note that on the directory of Kingdoms, there is a folder marked Archives.  This is where the older issues of the electronic newsletters are maintained.  These files currently go back to March 2012 when we first introduced electronic newsletters.

If you have any difficulties or questions, please email membership@sca.org.  Include your Legal Name, membership number,daytime phone number, and a brief  explanation of the problem you're experiencing.

Call for Applicants - Society Webminister

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is seeking candidates for the position of Society Webminister.  

This position reports to the SCA Board of Directors through the Office of the President. The Society Webminister is a supervisory position of Kingdom Webministers, and is not involved in maintenance of the Corporate website (www.sca.org).

The Society Webminister is responsible for the following duties:

1.  Ongoing development and revision of the Society Webminister’s policies and procedures, as detailed in the Society Webminister Handbook. This work will include solutions for website issues as they develop; observing trends; awareness of potential issues and streamlining webministry policies to provide better service to the SCA.

2.  Develop and enforce clear guidelines for local SCA group websites based on the standards found in the Society Webminister’s Handbook.

3.  Warranting of kingdom-level Webministers.

4.  Supervision of all kingdom-level websites, including proper use of domain names, monitoring content, regular reporting from Kingdom Webministers, and enforcement of the Society Webministry policies and procedures.

5.  Acting as a subject matter expert and resource regarding issues related to websites at the kingdom and local levels.

6.  Quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors for the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.

Required Qualifications:

*  Moderate to expert proficiency in web-related technologies (e.g. HTML, Java, PHP, ASP, web hosting issues, etc.);
* Microsoft Word proficiency;
* The ability to clearly communicate via email, phone, and in written reports; and
* Dependable email access, internet, and phone access.

Desired Qualifications:

* Prior experience as a Webminister in the SCA; and
* Prior experience as an officer at the Kingdom or Baronial level.

PEOPLE ON THE MOVE - Society Minister of Arts and Sciences

The Board of Directors is pleased to announce the addition of Richard Le Mons (Seigneur Etienne Le Mons d'Anjou) to the Society Officer Staff.

Richard has accepted the position of Society Minister of Arts and Sciences. He will be taking over the job from Erik Contreraz, (Master Raven Mayne, OL), who was kind enough to handle an extended tour in the position.

The Society Minister of Arts and Sciences is responsible for fostering the study of period culture and technology, and methods for producing historically accurate artifacts and performances. The duties include coordinating the efforts of kingdom Arts and Sciences officers, and promoting the dissemination of accurate information about the fields under study.

The Board would like to take this opportunity to welcome Richard, as well as to thank Eric for his service and dedication.

REQUEST FOR COMMENTARY - Proposed Changes – By-Laws and Corporate Policies

Currently open for commentary is a proposal for changes to the By-Laws and Corporate Policies for the Society for Creative Anachronism. The reasons for the suggested changes are to clarify confusing language, eliminate antiquated terms, and to correct grammar errors.

Due to the number of corrections requested, the documents along with the proposed changes have been posed on the SCA website to facilitate review of same. This file can be located at:

REQUEST FOR COMMENTARY - Proposed Corpora Change - Corpora IV.E.

Currently open for commentary is a proposal for a change to Corpora IV.E. Reason for suggested change is to clarify confusing language. Corpora currently reads:

ROYALTY, E. Limitations:
3.  Royalty may delegate:
a. the decision-making powers on legislation, distribution of armigerous awards and orders, or banishment, or
b. signature authority for warrants and rosters to territorial princes and princesses within their Kingdom.
Royalty may not delegate these powers or authorities to anyone else.

The proposed change reads as follows:

ROYALTY, E. Limitations
3. The Crown may delegate the following authority to those territorial princes and princesses within their Kingdom and may not delegate these powers or authorities to anyone else:
a. decision making powers on legislation of principality law with the approval of the Crown.
b. distribution of armigerous award and orders with prior approval of the Crown: the  distribution of armigerous awards and orders may also be granted to Landed Barons and Baronesses with the approval of the Crown.
c. banishment within the principality with prior approval of the Crown.
d. signature authority for warrants and rosters with prior approval of the Crown.
