Call for applicants, Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences.

Greetings to the citizens of Ealdormere,

As per my previous message, I am now officially advertising for my successor as Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences. Applications should be sent to and should include:

1) Reason(s) why you would like to apply for the position
2) SCA resume including previous positions held and areas of involvement, and any valid mundane experience
3) What you would like to do in the position to further the development and growth of arts and sciences in Ealdormere

The role is expected to be a two year commitment, starting at the end of the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Faire in 2018 and stepping down at the end of the Faire two years later, helping out on the day of at this coming A&S Faire. Due to the short timelines, the deadline for applications is February 15. If you have any questions, please forward them to

Thank you for your support during my time in office.

Yours in Service,
Merewen de Sweynesheie
Outgoing Kingdom Minister of Arts and Sciences

Call for applicants, Deputy Marshal of target archery and thrown weapons.

The Following is a missive from the Society Marshal.

Greetings to you all, and fair time of day.

My deputy for target archery and thrown weapons has begged leave to step down. As she has been in the position since 2006, I can expect no more from her (!)

At this time I am announcing that the office is open to all who would apply for it. I will accept applications for the position until January 15th, with a view to interviewing applicants and having a selection available for my quarterly report to the Board in April. Hopefully this schedule will allow for applications, due consideration of the candidates, and a decent transition of the office.

Any interested gentles should submit a cover letter, modern and SCA resume to myself ( and my target archery and thrown weapons deputy Mistress Lynette (

My ask of you is that you disseminate this information on my behalf to the archers in your kingdoms, and especially to the thrown weapons community, as they are often neglected as far as information flow is concerned.

Marshall of the Society

Wassail 2017

Greetings and salutations unto the populace of Ealdormere.

I had the pleasure of attending my first Wassail earlier this month.

Where to start? Many merchants with wonderful wares for sale. A table full of fabulous prizes for attendees to buy; should they have enough tokens. Their Excellencies Ramshaven held a dirty dozen donation drive for largess and many lovely items were donated. A smorgasbord of soups was laid out and you'd have been hard pressed to try them all. Later in the day, there was feasting, so much feasting and music and song. Unexpectedly, I found myself helping to serve the feast. Another first, thankfully I got a crash course from the more seasoned kitchen staff. It was a most enjoyable day and I was glad to have made the journey.

What follows are more complete accounting of the days events. First from King Edward and Queen Rylyn. Second, from the event steward Fearghas Mackenna. And, last, but not least an account of the court generously recorded by  Nicolaa Rouge Estoile.

Greetings from King Edward and Queen Rylyn.

What a wonderful day yesterday at Wassail! Thank you to Our home canton of Bryniau Tywynnog for hosting us.

Thank you to our first time autocrats and their staff for a well run event.

Thanks to the head cook and her staff, as well as all the servers, for a delicious well, presented feast.

The Soup table was plentiful and varied. Thank you to the lunch coordinator and everyone that brought soup to share.

As always the bar had a plethora of drinks to try. Thank you for your wonderful job.

Our thanks to all of the marshals that helped out for the tournaments. Also, those combatants that made toys for tots successful.

Congratulations to Mistress Catronia on her elevation and Mistress Eyrny on her vigiliing.

Merchants had an amazing array of goods. And I got a hippopotamus for Christmas.

Those that do all the work of set up and tear down deserve our thanks too.

And to all of you that came out to celebrate with us. Thank you
Edward, Rex, and Rylyn , Regina

My Lords and Ladies - and especially our most generous martial combatants - it's my pleasure to announce that the donations to the Toys For Tots tourneys have been given to the Kitchener Fire Station on Queen's Boulevard.

I've been in communication with the Station, and they've thanked us for our generosity.

The toys will be sent to the local Knights of Columbus for distribution; the cash donations - a heart-warming $234 - will be sent to the Kitchener Food Bank, so that their mighty purchasing power can be used to help families across Waterloo Region to have a brighter holiday season.

Thank you, one and all, for your kindness at Wassail.

An account of the courts of Their Majesties Edward and Rylyn, the third of their names, at Wassail in Bryniau Tywynogg on the second day of December in the fifty-second year of the Society.

During the afternoon, the rapier tourney was interrupted by Duchess Kaylah, who begged a boon of Their Majesties as a Master of Defense to add Eyrny Ormarsdottir to that Order. She is to be elevated at a later date to be determined.

Court resumed with the elevation of Catriona ingen Ragnaill to the Order of the Pelican. Having sat her vigil earlier in the day, Catriona approached Their Majesties and it was confirmed she was indeed wearing the appropriate Pelican stockings. Vicountess Kaellyn, speaking as a Royal Peer, asked for forgiveness for her many lies to Catriona, including "being a baronial exchequer is easy!", "being entourage is easy!", and "being a kingdom exchequer is the easiest job of all!" She mentioned that Catriona had helped conduct the first-ever audit and had left with all of the local exchequers actually liking her. Graf Siegfried then brought the words of Prince Baldric as a knight and Magistra Nicolaa the words of Dame Sarra Graeham as a Laurel, as neither could attend. Duchess Kaylah spoke as a Master of Defense (noting Catriona's ability to hide axes upon her person), Baroness Christiana as an Axe Maiden, and Lord Jobjorn spoke as an adopted grandson. After being presented with the hereditary medallion and hearing its lineage recited by Duchess Dagmar, receiving a second medallion from Her Majesty, and a coat presented by Baroness Margaret, Mistress Catriona swore fealty upon the Great Axe of the Kingdom. The scroll, exquisitely tiny, was by the hand of Lord Adnar.

Leave was granted to their Excellencies Penn and Lucia to hold Court, at which the tourney victors were announced and various honours distributed.

The Court of Their Majesties then continued with the acceptance of three new members into the White Wolf Fian. Baron Penda had built a complete set of smithing tools, including a great forge. THL Anne of Saffron Waldon had, in her words, "grown a tunic." This included growing, processing and spinning flax, weaving the cloth, and sewing it into a tunic in the style of the St. Louis shirt. Baroness Sybilla had made a box, including splitting, trimming and planing the wood and forging the nails and hinges. All three members were received with great enthusiasm.

Kitta Mjoksiglandi was called forward and bestowed with an Award of Arms for her devotion to archery and the arts (particularly in weaving). Scroll by Magistra Nicolaa.

Fearghus Mackenna was then called into Court and awarded Arms. As he is a cook, the text by Lord Graham Day was in the form of a recipe, and the illumination by Rykeld featured an image of a certain Chef from Sweden. Bork bork bork.

Thyri the Spinner was then called forward and awarded Arms, with the scroll wrought by Mistress Catriona.

Baron Tristram of Galador was brought before Their Majesties. His Majesty explained that Baron Tristram had been accounted a fine fighter in the early days of Ealdormere, but had not been seen in our Courts for many years. As he has returned to us now, it has again been noted that he has some skill in armour, and had never received recognition from the Kingdom, and so was awarded the Award of the Scarlet Banner, with the scroll by Lord Adnar.

Their Majesties called forward their Order of Thorbjorn's Hammer. His Majesty then noted that Baron Penda had shown great skill in melee combat and increasingly in the lists as well, particularly in Crown Tourney the week before, and made him a Companion of the Order of Thorbjorn's Hammer. Scroll wrought by Magistra Nicolaa.

Their Majesties then called forward all who were attending an event for the first time. After some kerfuffle, the Barbarians produced a gentleman who was then given a cup by Their Majesties and encouraged to return to Ealdormere's halls.
Business thus concluded, Court was closed.

As witnessed and recorded by Nicolaa Rouge Estoile.

Doors, you shall not close!

Greetings and salutations unto the populace of Ealdormere!

The gazette has a new hand on the tiller. If it's only half as steady as the last one we'd still be fortunate.

I'm doing my best to hit the ground running, come out swinging, get the ball rolling and a host of other idioms. I've already started cross posting  on Facebook and doing my best to aggregate interesting tidbits as they come my way. I hope to hear from anyone with upcoming events, story ideas, or news from around the kingdom. Message me, email me, send up a flare, do whatever you need to get your information to me and I'll do what I can to keep the populace up to date.

Please, don't hesitate to let me know what I can do to continue the fine work of my predecessor. I want all of your hands on the tiller too. Get in touch as I'd be grateful to hear what direction the populace wants the gazette to take.

Ealdormere Gazette Possibly Shutting its Doors

Greetings to Ealdormere,

I regret to inform you that I will no longer be working on the Ealdormere Gazette. It was a fun experiment but I don't think it has met its potential. It is a large project and in other kingdoms Gazettes have multiple people working on them. While I have tried to get other people involved with our Gazette I have not been successful in doing so.

I am, however, not just going to shut the doors. If anyone is interested in taking over the reins please PM me before the end of the month.
