Letter to the Barony: Taxes

Unto the noble populace of Skraeling Althing do Baron Shahid and Baroness Catherine send greetings.

This is a particularly special year for Our Barony – the 40th anniversary of the founding of Skraeling Althing.  With such a special anniversary, We wanted to do something special for taxes this year as well.  Therefore, We are pleased to announce the theme for this years taxes is ‘history’.
We would ask that all of Our populace work collaboratively to write stories of our history, both the distant past and recent events.  The Honourable Lady Eluned verch Angor has agreed to work as Our archivist, and compile these stories.  She can be contacted here.

Please note, while the deadline for taxes has traditionally been Feast of the Hare, we will be setting an earlier deadline this year (which will be announced soon).  It is Our intention to work with Our Signet to have these stories bound into a book, which will be on display at Feast of the Hare for everyone to enjoy.

In Service,
Shahid and Catherine
Baron and Baroness of Skraeling Althing

Missive from the Kingdom Seneschal Regarding Kingdom Bid Process

Greetings to the good people of Ealdormere,

It has been brought to my attention that there are some questions and concerns in regards to how Kingdom Event Bids are chosen by the Privy Council.

I thought I would walk through the process that a bid goes through when it is received by the Kingdom Seneschal, to clarify any misconceptions. The first thing that happens is the Seneschal reviews the bid to see if it meets kingdom guidelines, has a solid budget, and reasonable expectations for attendance, and so on, and will often ask the sponsoring group for clarification or ask for corrections or additions to make sure the bid will answer all the questions put forth by the Privy Council.  After the bid is deemed complete, it is sent to the Privy Council email list and the Council reviews and discusses the bid. The Council members may have questions and concerns about the bid which the Seneschal will forward to the submitting group. Their response is then brought back to the council and either there is more discussion or an online poll is conducted to decide if the bid is acceptable as it is or, in the rare case there is more than one bid, a vote by each member of the Council is completed to decide which bid to proceed with. The King and Queen separately each get a vote, the Prince and Princess (if we have Heirs at the time of the vote) share a vote and each Greater Officer of the Privy Council is allotted one vote. It is a simple vote where the Majority wins, but the Crown must support the decision.

Missive from Their Highnesses

Greetings to the the People of Ealdormere from Their Royal Highnesses Quilliam and Tangwystl
This summer at Pennsic… The Heroic Kingdom of Ealdormere will stand shoulder to shoulder with the the Mighty Kingdoms of the Midrealm and the East Kingdom.
Together WE three shall meet the Kingdoms of Aethelmearc and Northshield in a contest of truly epic proportions.
All other Kingdoms, non-aligned households and mercenary companies are politely requested to fight with the Aethelmearc-Northshield Alliance in order to ensure the sides are fair and even for all of the battles.
Our number one goal for Pennsic is for everyone to have fun and bring back a little old school Pennsic magic to the many battle scenarios we have planned. We will also be focusing on archery, the arts and sciences, and service, which will all be included in war point battles. As an added bonus the heavy weapons woods battle will return to the previous location off Zion Church Road.
If you have left the Pennsic family, we are hoping this is the war you choose to return.
Rejoin the camaraderie, spirit and fun.
We promise this Pennsic will be something special and one for the ages.
Come join with Us as the Wolf from the North sweeps across the fields of summer as a Northern Wind! Great deeds shall be done and the deeds that give us our songs and legends made!
WASSAIL!!!
Quilliam and Tangwystl, Prince and Princess of Ealdormere
